A man was transported to hospital early Thursday after being rescued by Hamilton’s fire department from the second floor of a vacant building shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.

At 1:06 a.m., the Hamilton fire department received reports of a fire in the vacant home at 81 Wilson Street in Downtown Hamilton, only a block from the Station 1 firehouse.

Immediately upon arrive, firefighters rescued a man. He was quickly transported to hospital, where he was treated and discharged.

Following the fire, property owner EMBLEM Developments boarded up the building and added jersey barriers to prevent entry into the building.

The building will be demolished when EMBLEM begins construction on a planned 31-storey tower on the site. The new tower will have the municipal address of 96 John Street North.
