People are correct, good news doesn’t usually make the news.
Each day brings more news than can possibly be reported. “Good news” often gets sidelined because other events are more important, more significant.
Today’s Hamilton Property Standards Committee meeting is a classic example. The first meeting since April, there was a clearly newsworthy item, and then several other hearings that would not make the news.
Here’s the good news story that I don’t want to leave unsaid.
At the beginning of today’s hearing, the City quickly asked the Committee to consent to giving an extension for complying with a property standards order.
The matter involved “repairs that need to be made to a rear porch [at] the property,” explained City of Hamilton lawyer Brandon Blackmore to the quasi-judicial committee.
The house “is a typical residential property” in Ward 3, he explained. “The property owners are committed to complying with that order.”
“Unfortunately, the husband has undergone some fairly significant medical setbacks over the summer.”
“He is the one who is completing the repairs. The City is willing to grant an extension until November 13, 2025.”
He stated the family agreed this is a reasonable date, and Blackmore asked the Committee to formally approve the extension.
This was quickly done.
The family didn’t even need to be at City Hall – everything was taken care of for them.
A good news story. The kind of thing that happens without any headlines. consent to giving an extension for complying with a property standards order.
