It’s been an open drug market, the scene of multiple shootings, and a place law-abiding Hamiltonians avoid.
Now the City of Hamilton is planning to permanently close the alleyway portion of the municipal parking lot at 11 and 13 East Avenue North in Ward 3.
The required public notice of closure was posted to the City’s website on Wednesday.
City Council will formally approve the closure at the September 29 Public Works committee meeting. Council ratification will follow on October 7.
The City has not disclosed its plans for the site.
The property is large enough that the parking lot could be declared surplus and used for housing.

These alleys are all over the city. When we moved into our house in the Delta area we had an alley at the rear of our house, paint in the bult with kids, others using it. We and the house behind ours agreed and we took half as they did and extended our backyards,it’s been done along our alley problem solved
I hope the housing is low income.Seniors and so forth.the closing of the lane is good but that will just moved to somewhere else in our city.
