As is standard City of Hamilton practice, a dangerous crosswalk will be made a bit safer, but only after a post-fatality review.

The City of Hamilton will paint a pedestrian crossing on King Street West just west of MacNab Avenue, where the four-lane King Street highway has an off-ramp into the Jackson Square parking garage.

On Friday, May 16, 2025, a pedestrian was struck and killed on the ramp beyond the pedestrian crossing. Hamilton Police continue to investigate.

Following the fatality, the City’s Vision Zero policy required a review of the area and the implementation of necessary safety measures.

  1. That’s a terrible place to cross. Cars just ignore pedestrians and race in there. I don’t see how paint will change that.
