The re-elected Ontario Conservatives tabled the 2025 provincial budget in the Legislative Assembly shortly after 4:00 p.m.
The budget includes over $230-billion in spending, with a deficit of nearly $15-billion.
The budget is focused on weathering the economic uncertainty caused by U.S. President Donald Trump and on addressing industrial productivity.
Various tax credits and incentives will be available to Ontario businesses, many of which will assist Hamilton companies to survive the ongoing uncertainty.
No Changes to Hamilton LRT: Remains Funded and Planned
The budget document states, “Progress continues on the Hamilton LRT alignment where early works, including public utility relocations, are underway. The Ontario government has taken another step forward by advancing the procurement process for the Hamilton LRT Civil Works and Utilities package.”
In November 2024, Metrolinx released the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the civil and utilities contract.
Nearly six months later, an announcement should be imminent.
The tenth anniversary of the 100 percent provincial funding commitment announcement is in eleven days. On May 26, 2015, Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne committed the provincial government to providing 100 percent capital funding for the project.
We’ll see if Metrolinx can minimize the inevitable ‘what has been done in the past decade’ questions by making an announcement next week.
