The redevelopment of the former Coppley apparel factory/headquarters into apartments and a hotel is moving quickly through City of Hamilton approvals.

In April, the City’s Heritage Permit Review Sub-Committee approved alterations to the heritage-designated building at 58 York Blvd to permit 36 rental apartment units and a 60-suite hotel, with ground-level commercial and events spaces.

On May 29, Hamilton’s Committee of Adjustment is expected to approve a full parking exemption for the project, recognizing that the existing building does not have parking.

CoA minor variances are required because the planned atrium and new mansard roofs are additions to the existing structure. These expansions in square footage create a parking space requirement under Hamilton’s zoning bylaw.

Following CoA approvals, the project should be able to receive its final building permits later in June.
