After over 50 years in uniform, Hamilton Paramedic Chief Michael Sanderson plans to retire.
City Manager Marnie Cluckie says, “It is a big loss to the City, but we’re happy for him in his next chapter.”
Sanderson will remain on duty until the end of August, and will participate in hiring the next paramedic chief.
“We have so much respect for him and he has so much knowledge that we really value his input throughout this process,” Cluckie says.
The job was posted last week, with a three-week application period.
Sanderson became the ninth paramedic in Ontario to serve 50 years, receiving the third bar to his EMS Exemplary Service Medal in October 2024.
In 2023, Humber College awarded him a Premier’s Award in recognition of his service.
Before being hired as Hamilton’s paramedic chief, Sanderson was an executive director at BC Ambulance, where he led all EMS activities during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
