There were a handful of residents sitting in the public gallery at Hamilton City Council’s Public Works Committee Monday – some for a petition to remove 130 metres of bike lane on Wimberly Avenue, and others opposed to the Hamilton Conservation Authority instituting access control to the Ancaster Well due to the water having higher than permitted concentrations of arsenic.

One of the attendees for the Well issue decided to yell at City staff as they were leaving the Council Chamber.

She accused City staff of being ‘totally unprepared’ and knowing nothing about the matters in front of Council.

Asked to stop yelling, she said she was leaving anyway – and left.

I noted this incident because disruptions of City Council meetings are still rare in Hamilton, and an older woman is not the stereotype we typically associate with a meeting disrupter.
