Hamilton’s LRT website hasn’t been updated since 2021, a lack of progress not lost on Ward 12 Councillor Craig Cassar.

“Of course, we have a web page. Just before the meeting, I went there and my observation is on the landing page for LRT. There’s a media release and a statement from the mayor, which dates from last term, from 2021, when there was an announcement of the news at that time, which I actually honestly just a little bit surprised, that there’s we’re not using that to update with whatever is new,” Cassar stated.

“Is there, a vision to be using that to keep things updated?” Cassar asked City staff.

The direction for City communications staff to update the website was the only action item out of Friday’s Hamilton Light Rail Transit Sub-Committee meeting.

It was a short public meeting with only two reports on the agenda, a communications update and a closed session update on property acquisition.

The City put an optimistic face forward, saying progress is occurring behind the scenes to get the B-Line LRT project running from McMaster University to Eastgate Square ready for construction.

Noticably absent, there were no representatives of Metrolinx in the room.

Hamilton’s LRT is a provincial Metrolinx project, funded jointly by the provincial and federal governments.

Earlier in September, the Metrolinx Board of Directors were updated on the status of the Hamilton project.

In a report, Metrolinx managers say they are still negotiating with the City of Hamilton regarding the role of the City, will continue “enabling works” in 2025, and provided no timeline for sending the project to tender.

In a recent planning application, the owners of Eastgate Square state Metrolinx told them design work for the Eastgate end of line was only at ten percent.

Following the public discussion on Hamilton LRT communications, Council went into closed session for 47 minutes to discuss property acquistion.

On Friday afternoon, following the meeting, the City of Hamilton’s LRT website was updated.
