The City of Hamilton is beginning to return public meetings to in-person only formats.

The May 26 Committee of Adjustment meeting will be the first to return to City Hall.

There will be no livestream and the public will not be able to delegate by video, ending two years of transparency

The City plans to require all citizen-majority committees to resume in-person meetings during the coming months.

Committees with a majority of members being city councillors will continue to meet in an electronic “hybrid” format to allow councillors to work remotely.

CoA member Bob Charters remarked, “it seems a shame” to end electronic public delegations.

Charters says the City is “certainly losing opportunity for public input by reducing it.”

“We’ve done it now for an extended period of time.”
