Ward 3 City Councillor Matthew Green floated a motion for a two-year lobbying ban on City Councillors who leave office.
Other Councillors indicated support for the concept, but only after a staff report is conducted to determine optios and practices in other municipalities.
Council voted 12-1 to have staff research a lobbying cooling off period for Councillors. Ward 12 Councillor Lloyd Ferguson was recorded as opposed.
Ferguson wanted the proposal to be reviewed by Council’s Accountability and Transparency Committee – the Governance Committee. Green’s motion is for the report to be considered at a future Council GIC meeting.
